Eastern Shore

On Sunday morning, we drove back over the inlet towards the Eastern Shore.  (We had gone back west later on Saturday.)

Norfolk has a big naval base

There is a 13 mile long bridge that connects the main land of Virginia to the Eastern Shore.  I feel like these pictures do no do it justice.  It is so long!  You feel like you're driving forever over water.

This 13 mile long bridge is not completely above water.  Because it crosses the Chesapeake Bay, boats and other watercraft need to be able to get through as well.  There are tunnels underwater that you must drive through, in order to let the boats pass overhead.  I absolutely loved it!

Part way along the bridge, there is a pier you can stop at.  There is a restaurant and gift shop.  We walked out and felt the wind in our hair!
