After we visited the cemetery, we went to see an old friend of the family, Gary Hawk. He is a famous artist, who has made many famous paintings. We ended up visiting for about an hour. He is 80 years old and still painting. He offered to paint us a picture of the Kansas prairie. At the bottom of the frame, he drew a REMARQUE picture of the "Home on the Range" painting.
Gary Hawk is self-taught. He was recently inducted into the Allen County Historical Museum.
He uses only watercolors.

He would paint and talk at the same time. Then he would have to stop and show us what he was talking about. So what should have taken 15 minutes, took an hour. :) It was well worth it though. He showed us some really neat things.
Gary also patented the baseball cap rack.
A finished product of my Kansas prairie. I have to get a frame for it soon!
